Live on Frenchman Street
Tuesday, October 27
6:00 – 10:00 PM
$164

The Faubourg Marigny is one of the oldest neighborhoods in New Orleans, established in the early 1800’s when Bernard Marigny subdivided his plantation to develop one of the first suburbs. Today, this district is more vibrant than ever, and has become arguably the most innovative music scene in the city. Each night on Frenchman Street seems to bring a carnival of sights and sounds with live music pouring out of barroom and restaurant doors as colorful characters stroll down these narrow streets. Along Frenchman Street proper, the diversity and proximity of businesses in a three-block stretch create a highly energized and vividly colorful street scene. Walking down a block on a typical evening, brings encounters with a reggae band jamming at the Caribbean restaurant Café Negril, or a visiting movie star or two ducking into Snug Harbor, the city’s premier venue for contemporary jazz. It won’t be long before more and more visitors will outnumber locals along the Faubourg’s buzzing streets, but for now, at least, visitors can savor a unique and thriving modern day bohemia representing authentic New Orleans culture, just one block outside the French Quarter. This evening tour will focus on the history of Jazz in New Orleans and the Frenchman Street corridor to experience this unique area. Enjoy dinner at one of the neighborhood restaurants before hearing some amazing music at one of the local clubs. Comfortable shoes are recommended for this partial-walking tour.
